Do you know that you have unlimited access to teleportation devices? They're called books!
One of the graces of this social distancing time is that the introverted/bookworm side of my personality has been thriving. I've finally had a chance to read books that have been on my wishlist for who knows how long. When the libraries were closed, my dad suggested I look into a resource called BiblioTech and it has been a godsend! It's essentially a digital library where you can find and borrow books in seconds. I'll definitely be using it for many years to come. Rapunzel from Tangled is my mood during quarantine :)
I could talk about books all day. Books with swoon-worthy boys, books to learn about different cultures, books that make you feel something. There are so many to chose from! Even if you read one book every day of your life, you would never run out of things to read. Some I devour in a day, others take me weeks or months to finish because I lose interest. That's another thing – I'm never pressured to finish a book. Time is too precious to read mediocre books.
My favorite thing about books is that they transport you to a different world. Right now, with not much place travel happening, I crave the wonder of exploring a new place. Books let you imagine an entirely different world in your head, whether that be a quaint English countryside or a dystopian society. I love the variety of genres available in literature. Depending on your mood or season of life, you are drawn to certain types of books. Adventure, mystery, romance, YA fiction, memoirs, historical works, Sci-fi, the list goes on and on. No matter what body of work you choose to read, for that amount of time you spend with it, you allow yourself to get lost. And along the way, you'll find yourself. That's the beauty of books which will never waver. Belle gets it :)
I encourage you to take a minute every once in a while, find a cozy chair, and dive into a book. Especially if you're feeling lonely. At the same time, don't get too carried away and miss out on moments with your loved ones. I know it's easy sometimes to ignore your surroundings. I for one am guilty of skipping dinner because I wanted to finish a good book. It will still be there when you're done. Life is too short to not enjoy it.
Here's a link to my Goodreads account which I recently reactivated! It's so fun to track the books I've read this year and to discover more treasures. What are you currently reading or what's one of your favorite books? I'm always looking for suggestions!
